White Heat (1949) is showing tonight at 10:15 on Turner Classic Movies. If you haven't seen it, you should! Star James Cagney was Jack Kirby's favorite actor in the '30s - it's said Jacob Kurtzberg changed his name to Jack Kirby partly because it sounded like James Cagney.
There's a scene in White Heat, wherein Cagney goes into a primal, ballistic rage, that I think influenced Kirby's creation and portrayal of The Incredible Hulk. The ending of the film, as you'll see, also influenced the end of Oliver Stone's Scarface.
Also worth seeing for the scene in which Cagney casually shoots a guy while gnawing on a chicken leg.
