Landlark, the Heat-Seeking Dwarf on WordPress!

The first chapter of Landlark, the Heat-Seeking Dwarf, originally published in The Signifiers #1, is being serialized on WordPress beginning today!

Cringe as Landlark is held captive by the Polution Pioneers, after being kidnapped from an anti-war love-in! Marvel at the impromptu park concert instigated by the bongo-playing Bongo! Dig it, brother, as Neno seats you in the front row of a wacked-out, conceptual, sci-fi art "happening"!

Read it here - but, don't weep: http://www.nenoworld.com/SignifiersUniverse/

Neno Scheduled to Draw the Future Foundation at the Laughing Ogre

In celebration of the new FF #1 (written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Steve Epting, a powerhouse team), I and other central Ohio cartoonists will be drawing free sketches of the FF (the Fantastic Four or the Future Foundation) with the purchase of a blank cover for FF #1 at the Laughing Ogre in Columbus. Daniel Acuna's beautiful alternate cover for FF #1 is shown above.

The sketchin' is scheduled for all day long on March 23rd. Details forthcoming.

Neno Guests on The Buzzing Reed

I met David H. Thomas, the principle clarinetist of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, on Twitter, where we've exchanged, with other kindred souls, thoughts on the state of classical music composition and performance. In addition to his exceptional talent as a musician, David's working, in many ways, to break down barriers between classical musicians and music listeners.

After asking me to design artwork for his upcoming new website (more info later), David also very kindly asked if I would consider writing an essay on music for his superb blog, The Buzzing Reed.

I did and the results have been posted, liberally illustrated with photographs. You can read the results here: http://blog.davidhthomas.net/2011/02/not-the-final-frontier-what-does-classical-musics-future-look-like-guest-post-by-michael-neno/

Please post comments there if you have any thoughts on what I've written. And, thank you very much, David, for allowing me space for my esoteric thoughts.

Frank Zappa Warps America's Minds

Is this the most subversive ad ever in a '60s Marvel comic book? It gets my vote.

Click for a large version to read the small print.

I displayed the ad last year in my exhibit, "Hey Kids! A History of Comic Book Advertising" at Wild Goose Creative.

I'll be exhibiting a range of my work and working processes this October. Details forthcoming...

Gracehaven: A Good Cause

As of December, 2010, a percentage of profits made by my publishing and graphic design company, M.R. Neno Productions, are being contributed to Gracehaven, the only organization in Ohio focusing on domestic minor sex trafficking.

Gracehaven spreads awareness of the problem through public speaking and the media, works in conjunction with Franklin County Children's Services, Foster Parents and other Ohio organizations and, most importantly, will be providing a home where girls rescued from trafficking can safely stay and heal.

You can learn more about Gracehaven here: www.gracehavenhouse.org

The Early Days of VHS

Anyone remember when the packaging used for VHS tapes was elaborate? (Probably not, but I do.)
